Get back to nature on Saturday with Okihi Fall Fest. The nature retreat center adjacent to the Kern River will host a gathering to show visitors all it has to offer the community. Overseen by White Wolf Wellness Foundation, the acre riverfront property on the north side of the river is being rehabilitated to prepare it for public use. Winters and her husband, Stephen, have served as stewards of the land, hosting events like the Skye on the River concerts and wellness sessions as well as a pilot education program funded through a state grant.
The couple also have plans that are launching in the next few months. We're bringing more interactive animal experiences and new outdoor education programs. So it really just came out of 'Let's celebrate because it's so easy to work really hard, and then you just don't forget to celebrate.
Saturday's festivities will begin with a welcome speech by Kern County First District Supervisor Philip Peters along with a ribbon cutting for Okihi's first hiking trail. Then the Aztec dance group Ollincan Yolotl will offer a prayer and dance at a. As part of the "over the rainbow" classroom, attendees can learn more about raising chickens at noon then about native plants 1 p.
Animal educators from California Living Museum will also offer a live animal presentation. Guests can also meet the many horses, goats and sheep that call Okihi home.
The animals can receive treats and are available for photos. The day will also include guided tours of new Okihi campsites. The midweek wind knock down some tents but the set-up will still stand for the festival.
