These have been sitting on my 'finish fettling now or forever hold thy peace' list for some time. Parker had a lucky escape later in the war. The shrapnel badly tore up Parker's shoulder and blew off the canopy, as well as slashing the wings and fuselage belly. A testament to the brute strength of Republic's design and the pilot's resolve that Parker continued flying, got back across the lines and landed on two shredded tyres.
