The process of cross-border cooperation is, in our view, an essential instrument that provides the framework and the necessary resources for the development of regions and for increasing their capacity to attract human and financial resources. Cross-border cooperation is therefore an attractive option for developing countries, as it increases the capacity of these countries to attract foreign direct investment and offers the possibility of progressive liberalization, which allows for the reduction of certain adjustment costs and political impediments associated with this process.
It allows the countries concerned, to integrate more easily into the global economy, and the fact that states were those that have been willing to participate in regional agreements, proves that these agreements are complementary to the process of globalization.
From this perspective, cooperation provides the means that allow regional actors to enter the global economy, as it leads to the formation of structures that reproduce the conditions of global governance at regional level.
The multiple facets and features of the cross-border regions presented above, have been the premise of building a volume dedicated to cross-border cooperation as a promoter of regional development and a European integration tool for EU Member States or those wishing to join the European Family. This article focuses on the correlation between the contemporary crisis phenomenon in the Eurozone and some CIS countries, and the existing Euroregions.
We attempt to analyze the interdependence of the qualitative aspect of cross-border relations of European countries with their economic sustainability in the context of regional international integration. The theoretical significance of this work lies in the revealed correlation between the efficiency of cross-border Euroregions and the additional resources that can be retrieved in the framework of national economic policy during global recession.
