One of the women arrested, year-old Theresa Arline, was also arrested last week in a similar police sting in the same neighborhood. After she was arrested on May 24, she was released from a courthouse jail after she promised to appear at her next court date. The women were picked up in the Hillside neighborhood near Grove, Pine and Willow streets.
Carrying out undercover operations in the area has become a routine response to complaints from residents, yet women continue returning to the area. Several of the women were released from prison in connection to pending cases. Police say they issued 13 warrants on them for failing to appear for court dates. So far, police have arrested 36 women in two weeks as part of the enforcement in the neighborhood.
