Borussia Dortmund swept past third division Magdeburg to sail into the third round of the German Cup and blow away concerns about a dip in form. Alexander Isak grabbed the headlines on his first start in German football, setting up the opener and scoring the second in a victory. Mainz needed extra-time to see off the challenge of second division high-flyers Kiel.
There were also no real surprises in the early games as all the Bundesliga sides progressed. Schalke were cruising but had to withstand a late Wiesbaden rally while Leverkusen were pegged back in the sceond half by Union Berlin before running out comforatble winners in the end.
