The Dr. John Zubizarreta Honors Program provides an enriched academic experience to outstanding students. If you are a motivated, ambitious student who is willing to accept challenges and engage in deeper ways of learning, then you should consider honors. First-year honors student and tennis player Vienne Geren, a double major in Studio Art and Biology, was selected to participate in the Partners in the Parks program through the National Collegiate Honors Council.
Partners in the Parks is an outdoor experiential learning program that offers select students and faculty the opportunity to visit, learn more, and participate in recreational activities in National Parks across the country in order to educate participants on the value of these parks to our nation. Our program has been used nationally and internationally as a select model of excellence.
Honors students are required to take 24 semester hours of honors courses in order to graduate. These hours include a senior seminar and an honors project. We have numerous honors students who are athletes, who double major and minor, and whose disciplinary areas demand heavy credit, internship, practicum, lab, performance, and studio time.
Athletics and majors such as education, business, the arts, and the sciences are challenging to juggle with honors or any other commitment, but we have many successful students in all those areas.
Taking as many honors courses as possible early in your progress is a good idea; the Honors Choice is a valuable resource; careful advising is essentialβbut most of all, your motivation and determination are the factors that can tip the balance and help you finish honors.
