It was entertaining enough. Virtually the entire movie depends on simply accepting for the sake of the movie that ghosts exist, so it really wasn't my thing, but I was apparently in a forgiving mood.
They do some cool things with that room, and John Cusack does a good job. Update: Bah, feel like dropping it to 5 now. Extremely predictable, a fair amount of cliched cheese, lacklustre acting at best.

But not everything goes according to plan. This movie is chock full of dumb people with a multitude of dumb plans. Not merely poor judgement, not simply lack of wisdom, not only hubris, but just sheer dumbness.
The scenarios and situations are beyond merely contrived; there is barely any sense in it at all. I'm not saying I dislike all contrived plots, nor do I insist on strictly logical writing, far from it. Irrational decision making is even realistic. But here there is It's a step above irrational, into non-sensical, disjointed, does-not-follow. And that's actually pretty important for a zombie movie; the setup is everything, no matter how ludicrous.
But let it at least be ludicrous, instead of A small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher. I didn't expect it to, but it held my attention more and more as I watched. In the ancient battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas and Spartans fight against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. It's not history. It's not ideology.
