Crime is low in San Francisco compared to other large cities. The city in Feb. The Richmond neighborhood, where USF is located, is one of the safest in the whole city. USF stands on a hill in the center of the city, with cafes, shops, restaurants, and Golden Gate Park all within walking distance. Most of its residential neighborhoods are clean and green and bustling. With the exception of the Tenderloin, the neighborhood from which most dire imagery comes, a walk through San Francisco is a stroll around an affluent Pacific capital of small bookstores and night markets and weekend festivals.
Like every urban area, San Francisco has challenges. Still, San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. USF has an established safety escort service and night safety program, including a USF Shuttle that is available seven days a week on campus and in the immediate area surrounding our acre campus. Through programs, presentations, and self-defense classes, the Department of Public Safety takes a proactive approach to preventing crime on campus.
Building marshals, emergency alerts, disaster preparedness plans, and emergency operations plans prepare our community for potential emergencies. Accessing campus is a breeze with our mobile One Card — available for all iOS and Android users with an eligible mobile device. Campus residence halls and most campus buildings are only accessible by swiping the university-issued One Card.
Officers patrol and monitor the campus on foot, in marked vehicles, bicycles, Segways, and motorcycles, as well as by staffing several fixed posts.
For residence halls in particular, students must pass through several layers of security, using their USF ID card each time to get into the building, pass the front desk, enter the residential area, and swipe into their dorm room.
