As a result of the special committee that studied the Carter decision and their recommendation that in the absence of good quality palliative care, you actually don't have a choice, I brought forward Bill C to create a palliative care framework, which I am very proud of.
My first question is easy and for each of you. We know that the framework was also looking at addressing the 60, missing resources in terms of palliative care doctors, nurses and other providers. Certainly there is renewed attention, as you said, on the importance of palliative care, and it was indeed positioned, by both the Supreme Court and in the Bill C legislation, as something that could alleviate suffering that might lead to a request for hastened death.
We were so fortunate to have supported, through the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians, Bill C , which created the national framework for palliative care.
