April 19, - Cape Coral Police are investigating a Sunday night crash that sent three people to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed was traveling westbound on Cape Coral Parkway in the middle lane. The driver, identified as Michael Grossman, 30, of Cape Coral, lost control, side-swiping two palm trees and then hitting a third tree head-on in the median.
The vehicle hit with such force that it split into three pieces, ejecting two of the three occupants, with debris coming to rest over feet away. The driver and both passengers sustained life-threatening injuries.
All three were trauma-alerted to a local hospital for treatment. A witness was westbound on Cape Coral Parkway in the left lane. The witness stated that Vehicle 1 was approaching him from the rear at a very high rate of speed approximately 80 mph in a 40 mph zone. The witness stated that there was a vehicle in the middle lane about 5 car lengths in front of his own vehicle.
The witness saw Vehicle 1 pass on his right and immediately change lanes to the left to cut in between him and the other vehicle. Vehicle 1 lost control and entered into the median where it struck two palm trees side swipe. Vehicle 1 continued West in the median and struck a large tree head on. Vehicle 1 had so much speed and force, the front of the vehicle wrapped around the tree and the rest of the vehicle was redirected counter clockwise. Vehicle 1 then broke up into three sections. The front of Vehicle 1 remained wrapped around the tree.
The middle section of Vehicle 1 continued West in the median striking two more trees and came to rest in the median 80 feet away. The top portion of the vehicle and part of the front and back seats came to rest in the driveway of Cape Coral Parkway West, feet from where the front of the vehicle impacted the tree.
