Residents across Greater Manchester were startled after Typhoon jets were heard blasting over the region on Monday afternoon February 5. Flight trackers showed the plane from Oslo to Manchester being escorted over the north east of England before it landed safely in Manchester.
The plane 'lost communications' on the way to Manchester, a spokesperson for Manchester Airport confirmed. The Typhoons were deployed to escort it to a safe landing as is 'standard procedures', before it was met by emergency services on the runway. Video footage shared with the M. N captured the spectacular moment the RAF Typhoon flew alongside the plane.
But the 'very loud' noise of the jets rumbling over homes in Manchester caught the attention of many, with one person saying it 'gave them a fright' and another adding they they thought their 'roof was coming off' in comments on social media.
Nicola Ryan said: "Came right over my house thought the roof was coming off" as Paul Davis commented: "Gave me a fright as they thundered over my house! Rebekah Danielleh said: "Wondered what they were doing, they flew right over my house. Michele Watson wrote: "I was in Stockport this morning and it flew straight over the Merseyway centre, it was amazing but my god it was so loud. A spokesperson for Scandinavian Airlines System added: "Flight SK from Oslo to Manchester this afternoon underwent an escorted landing in response to a brief and temporary loss of communication.
A standard procedure was initiated but there was never any danger to the flight or its passengers. An investigation has been launched and the matter is being handled by relevant authorities as per standard procedures and we cannot comment any further.
