Its overall topic, narratives that pass over national, language and ethnical borders include studies about transcultural novels, poetry, drama and the narratives of journalism. There is a broad geographic diversity, not only in the anthology as a whole, but also in each of the single contributions.

Their protagonists reflect upon what it means in their day-to-day lives to identify with multiple national entities at the same time as they engage self-reflexively with language as a means of expressing this experience. An analysis of a new type of literature that is emerging owing to globalization, mobility, cultural confluences and neonomadic life patterns. This new kind of literature is produced by writers who narrate across cultural and national boundaries and who transcend in their lives and creative production the borders of a single culture.
