TNO was established by law in to support companies and governments with innovative, practicable knowledge. As a statutory organization TNO has an independent position that permits it to provide objective, scientifically-founded recommendations to the Dutch government and other representatives of the Dutch people. Today, TNO is a knowledge organization for companies, government bodies and public organizations.
The daily work of approximately 5, employees is to develop and apply knowledge. The organization also provides contract research and specialist consultancy as well as grants licenses for patents and specialist software. TNO tests and certifies products and services, and issues an independent evaluation of quality. Moreover, TNO sets up new companies to market innovations.
