So I start Freedom Road Driving academy in the am tomorrow. Have been in talks with them for about 3 weeks and they have been very helpful with getting started. They are a fairly new school here in Wichita Ks and all former OTR drivers and one is a former instructor at another local school who did not like the way it was ran.
They say we will be in the truck on the first day of class which to me is a plus, another plus in my mind is that I will be the only one in my class last I knew. Nervously excited to get this going, will keep the updates coming. OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time. A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety.
It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard. I will be the only one in my class last I knew. It's just you for the class?? Jealousy abounds.
Even if there are others you should get lots of attention in your driving practice. Been hard to find time to get on here and update. Class has been great so far, very helpful and knowledgeable instructors. We spend 4 hours a day in the classroom and 4 hours in the truck. Day one was mostly going over how to run a log book then taking the truck out for some shifting practice. Day 2 was much the same as day one. Day 3 went over pre-trip and touched on hours of service a little then out to drive.
Day 4 was more pre-trip and H. Day 5 was a test over H. We had an interesting time that day as the snow and ice moved in. Today we started going over maps and gps and all the goodies in the trucker's atlas then out for a drive did some straights, a 45 degree and a couple 90 degree backs then out so i could work on my downshifts.
