Nei suoi saggi Garboli riformula i significati dei testi di partenza in un nuovo testo che sfrutta risorse letterarie, ricorre a pattern narrativi, utilizza un linguaggio ad alta densitΓ metaforica e stilistica, contamina elementi storici ed elementi finzionali. Analysing the work of Cesare Garboli, this article aims at representing the essay as an anamorphic projection.
The essay deforms the literary text to deconstruct perceptive and interpretative conventions. It brings within the literary work a divergent image of the work itself.
Building on this visual metaphor, and drawing on theoretical insights from neurocognitive sciences, the article interprets the essay as a third space in which criticism and invention are hybridised, analysis and creative writing are overlapped.
The essay results from a conceptual blending, that is, the merging of two mental spaces previously unrelated. In his essays, Garboli reshapes the meanings of the analysed texts and creates a new text drawing on literary resources, such as narrative patterns, metaphorical and stylistic density, contamination of history and fiction. In reproducing literary works as anamorphoses, Garboli aims at deconstructing the illusionism of literature.
